My Photos

My Photo's that I want to use!

I managed to finally decide what I was going to take pictures of. I decide to go with taking pictures of my boyfriend. I took over thirty pictures to make sure that i had plenty of pictures to choose from.
< style="text-align: left;">
The picture is another one of the pictures i like it has a nice feel to it and has a sort of attitude
to it. Also really like the angle of this picture the
light hits the image in a really effective way.
I also picked this picture because it is young
and fun again. I also like how the person in the
picture in not looking at the camera. I also really think the background works with my magazine I am very pleased with this picture.

The over picture I really would like to use is this one. The reason being that once again it is really effective and has an attitude to it. The over thing I like about this picture is the way the person in the picture is sitting.

This is the last picture I really like. The reason I like this picture is because the way there is shadow I think this gives the picture a really good effect. I also like how there is no eye contact with the camera this gives a very moody attitude which is appropriate for my magazine.

My Flat Plans

I have chosen to call my magazine Beat Mix. The reason I have chosen to call it this is because it keeps the magazine young and relevant to what the reader will be seeing in my magazine. My front cover flat plan has two pictures one in which will be a medium close up and the over will be a long shot. The reason I have chosen to use to pictures is it allows a variety and will draw the audience in and make them want to read my magazine. Also on my front page i have quotes. I thought that by adding a quote will make to reader want to open the magazine and know more.
I have chosen not to make my magazine extremely busy but not to bland, I'm keeping it more in the middle so it's easy for everyone to understand. Even the title of my front cover is still really young and fun to look at but remains clear for my target audience. The background colour of my magazine is going to be Yellow because i think that will go with the colour of my writing which will be red. These colours will stay to my target audience and will benefit my magazine in the way that it wont be to dark or too bright.

My fonts

This is one of my chosen fonts. This was under the category of comic. What I really like about this type of font is how it has bold letters and then letters that are not bold. Also like the way in which the font has writing behind the main title, this is effective for my magazine. The way that it is effective is that draws the audience's attention in but allows the eyes to look deeper. I think this would be effective for my age group because the font is young and fun.
I thought I would also look at all the letters in this font so I could see what each letter looks like and if it would benefit to my magazine. Looking at all the letters has helped me decide in more depth what my magazine could be called. I have come up with the idea of calling my magazine "Beat Mix." I like this because its catchy and is relevant to a music magazine.

Even though I was reasonably set on that particular font I have decided to look at more fonts.
This font was under distorted I found this font and I do like it but don't think it will benefit my magazine. The reason I believe this is because it is not that clear and even though my magazine is aimed at a younger target audience it still may not be clear for some of my target audience.

< This is the title I have decided on for my dance music magazine. I think the font goes really well with the words. Also i like the way in which only two of my letters are bold because it makes sure the title stands out and will make it different from any over magazine title. I have also decided that i will repeat the title maybe once or twice really small around the main title, Like it is done with a word above. I think this will appeal to my target audience.

Double page

This is one double page of Mixmag.
There are three pictures on the double page. Two of the pictures are just fitted in around the text. But the over picture takes up the intire page it is a medium close up of a women. This picture is good because its very eye catching and makes us want to read on. The picture is quite dark and even a little bit scary and is from a photo shoot all three pictures are from the same photo shoot. Under the picture it has a quote which says "Sometimes I think I can't do this and then other days I'll make something I thought I never could!".I really like this quote its very thoughtful and could mean so many things, I think this is beneficial to the magazine. The text is rather small and there is a lot of text. There are two drop capitals on this page which splits up the subject. The atmosphere that the magazine gives off is a dark and interesting feel mainly because of the pictures. There is not much use of colour and it’s very dark and even slightly a bit dull. What is a bit surprising is there are not captions under the pictures so it doesn't really tell us what each picture is about. The only writing is the quote. The facial expression of the Woman on the left hand side page is interesting in the way that her facial expression can all most tell a story.

The language and the text are really deep and it not easy to understand what they are talking about. I believe the article to be about a band member or a DJ and how there life is perceived.
The font is easy to see and read and is a good size. It is also bold to make it stand out and also helps the text to fit in with the dark pictures. As I continued reading the article I began to understand it more and get more of a detailed idea of what it was about for example the "conducting life of a DJ."
The layout of the double page is typical of a music magazine and has a nice effect to it. What really works about it is the way that the writing goes round the pictures. Another point that works about the magazine is the article over laps a tiny bit on to the next page this helps to link the pages together.
The really good things about this double page is that even though the colours aren't really that bold they still stand out mainly because the image is eye catching and dark and makes us want to know more. Another thing that is good is the quote at the bottom of one of the pages this gives us an opinion. I think that the page could be better if it had a title or some sort of heading so we can understand a bit more.

Contents page.

This is the contents page of Mixmag.
The contents page is not really split into categories its set into columns with the right side having a picture and then the left side having a column about what is in the magazine. The contents page doesn't really fit with the front cover, in the way that that the front cover has really bold text and colour and the contents page is really dull. Also the way that the front cover is set out is interesting and some of the text it tilted and on the contents page the set out is so simple and boring to look at.
When I see the contents page is does not tell me that this is dance music. Also I would not of said that this contents page is meant to be aimed at young adults.
The font for the contents page seems to be just a simple font (Arial.)Then on the front page its loads of different fancy texts which draw’s the eye in.

There is one main image on the page, which is a strange image and seems to have nothing to do with music. The contents page is called Tunes which is a good title and relates back to the magazine. There is a band index on the side where we can see what bands and what type of music is mentioned in the magazine.
On the top right-hand side there is a box with the magazines ratings in, this is good because it allows the audience to have their opinion on the contents page.

I wouldn't want my contents page to look like this, I think a contents page needs to be colourful and needs to be similar to the front cover. Also think that there should be a better font on the contents page something more like what is on the front cover of Mixmag.

Analysis of Exisitng Magazines

The first magazine cover that I will analysis is Mixmag.

The front of the title of Mixmag is surprisingly simple. The text is just large but is not a fancy text. The headings on the cover of what is in the magazine are really fancy and have a layering of the same word around each letter the font type is traditional. The text is still clear to read but is eye catching and effective. There is one main picture; of Sam Sparrow smiling. The picture is effective in the way that it has been layered and different things that have been put on the front cover are over lapping the picture. The picture is a medium close up it’s very clear. It portrays some sort of attitude on the magazine this could also be why it’s aimed at a young target audience. The picture is also of a young good looking male which would attract the audience of young females. Also on the magazine at the very top the say they are giving free CD's and a club guide this clearly tells us its a young audience and is aimed at people who go clubbing. The design is tailored to meet the target audience in the way that things over lap, that there are use of colours and wide range of different types of font. For example all the font that is yellow really stands out and could be known to be a young target audience colour. The reason i think the overlapping would work for a young target audience is because it makes the magazine front cover fun at "Young." The font is another way that the magazine has been made to have a young target audience. The letters are not joined and are clear to read but still have a good effect. The colour purple that has been used for the back ground works well with colour of the title and headings this is good and keeps the magazine cover not looking too complicated. Some extra information that is added is the bar code, date and the note price of the magazine. The main sort of stories on the magazine is a music interview with Sam Sparrow.

The next magazine front cover I'm analysing is DJ Mag. The front cover of this magazine is really busy. Its does use a wide range of colours and has more then one main image on it which is unusual.
The title of the magazine is in Bold red font they have done this to make that been the thing that stands out. Unlike the over magazine where that title is simple and calm. This really tells us it’s aimed at a younger target audience.
The picture on the magazine is of three young males on a beach, this is not a medium close up. Although there is more then one person on the magazine like you normally find it still works. The picture gives of a good vibe and makes the person reading; want to be where the people in the picture are.
This magazine also overlaps and layers writing over the picture. This is really good and effective. Red bold writing has been used again so its stands out. All the different subjects that are in the magazine have been highlighted in different colour to each other; this makes it clear for us and is again easy to find what we are looking for. There are many similarities between the two magazines for example they are both giving away free stuff and they both give of some sort of attit
ude.
Something that this magazine uses that the over one doesn't is Shapes and then adding the texts on to the shapes. As you can see there is like a star shape which draws the audience’s eye in and makes us want to read the magazine. The extra information that is on the front cover is the bar code, date and the note price of the magazine.
The way that this magazine is tailored to meet the needs of the target audience is that it’s quite busy and a lot is going on. Even though the are some varieties in both of the covers they still have both got strong points and are similar in there target audience.
